De zon was van de partij, net als heel wat geëngageerde leden – een ideale gelegenheid om samen terug te blikken én vooruit te kijken.

Tijdens deze boeiende dag stonden we stil bij het voorbije jaar, maakten we plannen voor de toekomst en namen we samen enkele belangrijke beslissingen over de koers van onze organisatie.

De Universiteit Gent (Boekentoren) bezit een uitzonderlijke erfgoedcollectie, zowel fysiek als digitaal, waarvan er heel wat in het publiek domein zitten en raadpleegbaar zijn via [https://lib.ugent.be/nl/catalog?access=zoomable&amp;q= IIIF op hun online catalogus].  Dankzij de inzet van vrijwiliger,  [[c:User:Mr.Nostalgic|Mr.Nostalgic]], zijn recent tienduizenden digitale opnames van Belgisch erfgoed toegevoegd aan Wikimedia Commons.

De collectie varieert van middeleeuwse manuscripten tot stedelijke monumenten, en biedt een rijk palet van cultuurhistorisch waardevolle objecten: [[c:Category:Numismatics of Ghent University Library|munten]], [[c:Category:Atlas photographique de la lune| handschriften, landkaarten, prenten, oude foto’s en architecturaal erfgoed]] uit heel België.

Deze beelden geven een unieke inkijk in het Belgische verleden, maar ook ver daarbuiten. Ze omvatten opnames van iconische monumenten en stedelijk erfgoed, zorgvuldig gedocumenteerd en anders vaak moeilijk toegankelijk voor het brede publiek.

Dankzij deze grootschalige upload wordt waardevol digitaal erfgoed niet alleen veiliggesteld voor toekomstige generaties, maar ook wereldwijd toegankelijk gemaakt voor onderzoekers, studenten en geïnteresseerden. Bovendien kunnen de afbeeldingen vrij worden gebruikt op platformen zoals Wikipedia en Wikidata.

== 🎶 Terugblik op 8 mei – Schrijfsessie voor doctorandi in de kunsten en musicologie == &lt;!--T:20--&gt;

Op 8 mei verzamelden doctorandi uit heel België voor een inspirerende [[m:Event:Wikimedia_Belgium/Musical_Instruments_Museum/2025-05-08|schrijf- en ontmoetingsdag]] rond onderzoek in de kunsten en musicologie. De bijeenkomst bood jonge onderzoekers de kans om hun werk te presenteren en in gesprek te gaan over methodologische, historiografische en artistieke vragen.

Meer dan honderd ontwikkelaars, ontwerpers en technische bijdragers van over de hele wereld kwamen samen voor een weekend vol samenwerking, creativiteit en coderen.
De hackathon is dé plek voor mensen die al actief zijn binnen de technische Wikimedia-gemeenschap om elkaar in levenden lijve te ontmoeten. Het evenement begon, zoals de traditie het wil, met een 'lightning round' waarin deelnemers elk precies 60 seconden kregen om hun projectideeën te presenteren. Daarna vormden zich werkgroepen rond uiteenlopende onderwerpen, van verbeteringen aan de MediaWiki-software tot experimentele tools voor Wikipedia en andere Wikimedia-projecten.

Zoals steeds werd het weekend feestelijk afgesloten, dit jaar met een muzikale avondcruise over de Bosporus — een sfeervolle afsluiter van een inspirerend en productief weekend.

== Algemene Vergadering Wikimedia Europa 2025: Samen sterker in Praag == &lt;!--T:38--&gt;

Op 25 en 26 april 2025 vond in Praag de jaarlijkse Algemene Vergadering van [[m:Wikimedia_Europa/nl|Wikimedia Europa]] plaats. Wikimedia Tsjechië verwelkomde dit jaar de vertegenwoordigers van de Europese chapters in hun lokalen, gelegen in een voormalig industrieel gebied net buiten het centrum van de stad.

Tijdens de bijeenkomst werden de activiteiten van 2024 onder de loep genomen. De deelnemers — een brede afvaardiging van verkozen leden uit de verschillende Wikimedia-organisaties in Europa — namen kennis van de jaarverslagen, financiële balansen en behaalde resultaten. Ook werd vooruitgeblikt op de plannen voor 2025.

Op 19 juni 2025 blaast de Nederlandstalige Wikipedia maar liefst 24 kaarsjes uit! Wat ooit begon als een opvolging van de Engelstalige online encyclopedie, groeide uit tot één van de grootste Nederlandstalige kennisbronnen op het internet – gemaakt en onderhouden door duizenden vrijwilligers.

De zon was van de partij, net als heel wat geëngageerde leden – een ideale gelegenheid om samen terug te blikken én vooruit te kijken.

Tijdens deze boeiende dag stonden we stil bij het voorbije jaar, maakten we plannen voor de toekomst en namen we samen enkele belangrijke beslissingen over de koers van onze organisatie.

In onze vorige nieuwsbrief is jammer genoeg een fout geslopen door een misinterpretatie van de ontvangen informatie. Onze oprechte excuses daarvoor.

Hieronder vind je de correcte informatie:

De Universiteit Gent (Boekentoren) bezit een uitzonderlijke erfgoedcollectie, zowel fysiek als digitaal, waarvan er heel wat in het publiek domein zitten en raadpleegbaar zijn via [https://lib.ugent.be/nl/catalog?access=zoomable&amp;q= IIIF op hun online catalogus].  Dankzij de inzet van vrijwiliger,  [[c:User:Mr.Nostalgic|Mr.Nostalgic]], zijn recent tienduizenden digitale opnames van Belgisch erfgoed toegevoegd aan Wikimedia Commons.

De collectie varieert van middeleeuwse manuscripten tot stedelijke monumenten, en biedt een rijk palet van cultuurhistorisch waardevolle objecten: [[c:Category:Numismatics of Ghent University Library|munten]], [[c:Category:Atlas photographique de la lune| handschriften, landkaarten, prenten, oude foto’s en architecturaal erfgoed]] uit heel België.

Deze beelden geven een unieke inkijk in het Belgische verleden, maar ook ver daarbuiten. Ze omvatten opnames van iconische monumenten en stedelijk erfgoed, zorgvuldig gedocumenteerd en anders vaak moeilijk toegankelijk voor het brede publiek.

Dankzij deze grootschalige upload wordt waardevol digitaal erfgoed niet alleen veiliggesteld voor toekomstige generaties, maar ook wereldwijd toegankelijk gemaakt voor onderzoekers, studenten en geïnteresseerden. Bovendien kunnen de afbeeldingen vrij worden gebruikt op platformen zoals Wikipedia en Wikidata.

Wikimedia dankt de [https://lib.ugent.be/ universiteit] om deze collectie beschikbaar te stellen en [[c:User:Mr.Nostalgic|Mr.Nostalgic]] voor het ontsluiten via categorieën.

== 🎶 Terugblik op 8 mei – Schrijfsessie voor doctorandi in de kunsten en musicologie ==

Op 8 mei verzamelden doctorandi uit heel België voor een inspirerende [[m:Event:Wikimedia_Belgium/Musical_Instruments_Museum/2025-05-08|schrijf- en ontmoetingsdag]] rond onderzoek in de kunsten en musicologie. De bijeenkomst bood jonge onderzoekers de kans om hun werk te presenteren en in gesprek te gaan over methodologische, historiografische en artistieke vragen.

De sessie was niet alleen een vruchtbare netwerkgelegenheid, maar leverde ook mooie concrete resultaten op op Wikipedia:&lt;br&gt;

== Wikimedia Hackathon 2025: Code, Connecties en de Bosporus ==

Van '''2 tot 4 mei''' vond de jaarlijkse '''[[mw:Wikimedia_Hackathon_2025|Wikimedia Hackathon]]''' plaats — dit keer op een bijzondere locatie: aan de oevers van de Bosporus, in het hart van [[wikipedia:nl:Istanbul|Instanbul]].

Meer dan honderd ontwikkelaars, ontwerpers en technische bijdragers van over de hele wereld kwamen samen voor een weekend vol samenwerking, creativiteit en coderen.
De hackathon is dé plek voor mensen die al actief zijn binnen de technische Wikimedia-gemeenschap om elkaar in levenden lijve te ontmoeten. Het evenement begon, zoals de traditie het wil, met een 'lightning round' waarin deelnemers elk precies 60 seconden kregen om hun projectideeën te presenteren. Daarna vormden zich werkgroepen rond uiteenlopende onderwerpen, van verbeteringen aan de MediaWiki-software tot experimentele tools voor Wikipedia en andere Wikimedia-projecten.

Naast het intensieve programmeerwerk waren er ook workshops en technische presentaties, afgestemd op de interesses van de deelnemers.  Heel het [[mw:Wikimedia_Hackathon_2025/Program|programma]] bekijken?

Zoals steeds werd het weekend feestelijk afgesloten, dit jaar met een muzikale avondcruise over de Bosporus — een sfeervolle afsluiter van een inspirerend en productief weekend.

== Algemene Vergadering Wikimedia Europa 2025: Samen sterker in Praag ==

Op 25 en 26 april 2025 vond in Praag de jaarlijkse Algemene Vergadering van [[m:Wikimedia_Europa/nl|Wikimedia Europa]] plaats. Wikimedia Tsjechië verwelkomde dit jaar de vertegenwoordigers van de Europese chapters in hun lokalen, gelegen in een voormalig industrieel gebied net buiten het centrum van de stad.

Tijdens de bijeenkomst werden de activiteiten van 2024 onder de loep genomen. De deelnemers — een brede afvaardiging van verkozen leden uit de verschillende Wikimedia-organisaties in Europa — namen kennis van de jaarverslagen, financiële balansen en behaalde resultaten. Ook werd vooruitgeblikt op de plannen voor 2025.

De sfeer was constructief en collegiaal. Belangrijke onderwerpen op de agenda waren onder andere:

* De impact van de Europese '''Digital Services Act''' op onze beweging, met bijzondere aandacht voor de aanpak van systemische crises

De Algemene Vergadering van Wikimedia Europa blijft een essentieel moment om af te stemmen, te verbinden en gezamenlijk richting te geven aan de toekomst van het vrije kennisnetwerk in Europa.

Op 19 juni 2025 blaast de Nederlandstalige Wikipedia maar liefst 24 kaarsjes uit! Wat ooit begon als een opvolging van de Engelstalige online encyclopedie, groeide uit tot één van de grootste Nederlandstalige kennisbronnen op het internet – gemaakt en onderhouden door duizenden vrijwilligers.

Grâce aux efforts du bénévole [[c:User:Mr.Nostalgic|Mr.Nostalgic]], des dizaines de milliers d'enregistrements numériques du patrimoine belge ont récemment été ajoutés à Wikimedia Commons.

La collection, qui va des manuscrits médiévaux aux monuments urbains, offre une riche palette d'objets historico-culturels: [[c:Category:Numismatics of Ghent University Library|monnaies]], [[c:Category:Atlas photographique de la lune|manuscrits, cartes, gravures, photographies anciennes et patrimoine architectural]] provenant de toute la Belgique.

Grâce à ce téléchargement à grande échelle, un patrimoine numérique précieux est non seulement sauvegardé pour les générations futures, mais aussi rendu accessible aux chercheurs, aux étudiants et aux parties intéressées. En outre, les images peuvent être utilisées librement sur des plateformes telles que Wikipedia et Wikidata.

Cette rencontre a permis aux jeunes chercheurs de présenter leur travail et d'engager une conversation sur des questions méthodologiques, historiographiques et artistiques.

Wikimedia République tchèque a accueilli cette année les représentants des chapitres européens dans ses locaux, situés dans une ancienne zone industrielle juste à l'extérieur du centre-ville.

Au cours de la réunion, les activités de 2024 ont été passées au crible. L'atmosphère était constructive et collégiale. Les principaux sujets à l'ordre du jour étaient les suivants:

Wikimedia République tchèque a accueilli cette année les représentants des chapitres européens dans ses locaux, situés dans une ancienne zone industrielle juste à l'extérieur du centre-ville.

Au cours de la réunion, les activités de 2024 ont été passées au crible. Les participants - une large délégation de membres élus des différentes organisations Wikimedia en Europe - ont pris note des rapports annuels, des états financiers et des résultats obtenus. Ils se sont également penchés sur les projets pour 2025.

L'atmosphère était constructive et collégiale. Les principaux sujets à l'ordre du jour étaient les suivants:

* '''Network Communication''': la communication interne au sein de Wikimedia Europe.
* L'impact de la loi européenne sur les services numériques sur notre mouvement, avec un accent particulier sur la gestion des crises systémiques.
* Le rôle de Wikimedia en Europe du Nord.

Un autre moment important a été l'élargissement du conseil d'administration : deux nouveaux membres ont été élus.

L'Assemblée générale de Wikimedia Europe reste un moment essentiel pour s'aligner, se connecter et façonner collectivement l'avenir du réseau de la connaissance libre en Europe.

The collection ranges from medieval manuscripts to urban monuments, offering a rich palette of cultural-historical objects: [[c:Category:Numismatics of Ghent University Library|coins]], [[c:Category:Atlas photographique de la lune| manuscripts, maps, prints, old photographs and architectural heritage]] from all over Belgium.

Working groups then formed around a variety of topics, from improvements to the MediaWiki software to experimental tools for Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.Tttt

The meeting reviewed the 2024 activities. The participants - a broad delegation of elected members from the various Wikimedia organisations in Europe - took note of the annual reports, financial statements and results achieved. They also looked ahead to plans for 2025.

The atmosphere was constructive and collegial. Key topics on the agenda included:

Ghent University (Book Tower) has an exceptional heritage collection, both physical and digital, many of which are in the public domain and can be accessed via [https://lib.ugent.be/nl/catalog?access=zoomable&amp;q= IIIF on their online catalogue] Thanks to the efforts of volunteer, [[c:User:Mr.Nostalgic|Mr.Nostalgic]], tens of thousands of digital recordings of Belgian heritage have recently been added to Wikimedia Commons.

The collection ranges from medieval manuscripts to urban monuments, offering a rich palette of cultural-historical objects: [[c:Category:Numismatics of Ghent University Library|coins]], [[c:Category:Atlas photographique de la lune| manuscripts, maps, prints, old photographs and architectural heritage]] from all over Belgium.

These images provide a unique insight into Belgium's past, but also far beyond. They include shots of iconic monuments and urban heritage, carefully documented and otherwise often difficult to access for the general public.

Thanks to this large-scale upload, valuable digital heritage is not only safeguarded for future generations, but also made globally accessible to researchers, students and interested parties. Moreover, the images can be freely used on platforms such as Wikipedia and Wikidata.

Ghent University (Book Tower) has an exceptional heritage collection, both physical and digital, many of which are in the public domain and can be accessed via [https://lib.ugent.be/nl/catalog?access=zoomable&amp;q= IIIF on their online catalogue] Thanks to the efforts of volunteer, [[c:User:Mr.Nostalgic|Mr.Nostalgic]], tens of thousands of digital recordings of Belgian heritage have recently been added to Wikimedia Commons.

The collection ranges from medieval manuscripts to urban monuments, offering a rich palette of cultural-historical objects: [[c:Category:Numismatics of Ghent University Library|coins]], [[c:Category:Atlas photographique de la lune| manuscripts, maps, prints, old photographs and architectural heritage]] from all over Belgium.

More than 100 developers, designers and technical contributors from around the world came together for a weekend of collaboration, creativity and coding.
The hackathon is the place for people already active in the Wikimedia technical community to meet in person. The event began, as is tradition, with a ‘lightning round’ in which participants were each given exactly 60 seconds to present their project ideas. Working groups then formed around a variety of topics, from improvements to the MediaWiki software to experimental tools for Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.Tttt

The annual General Assembly of [[m:Wikimedia_Europa|Wikimedia Europe]] took place in Prague on 25 and 26 April 2025. Wikimedia Czech Republic welcomed this year's representatives of the European chapters to their premises, located in a former industrial area just outside the city centre.

The meeting reviewed the 2024 activities. The participants - a broad delegation of elected members from the various Wikimedia organisations in Europe - took note of the annual reports, financial statements and results achieved. They also looked ahead to plans for 2025.

The atmosphere was constructive and collegial. Key topics on the agenda included:

Ghent University (Book Tower) has an exceptional heritage collection, both physical and digital, many of which are in the public domain and can be accessed via [https://lib.ugent.be/nl/catalog?access=zoomable&amp;q= IIIF on their online catalogue] Thanks to the efforts of volunteer, [[c:User:Mr.Nostalgic|Mr.Nostalgic]], tens of thousands of digital recordings of Belgian heritage have recently been added to Wikimedia Commons.

The collection ranges from medieval manuscripts to urban monuments, offering a rich palette of cultural-historical objects: [[c:Category:Numismatics of Ghent University Library|coins]], [[c:Category:Atlas photographique de la lune| manuscripts, maps, prints, old photographs and architectural heritage]] from all over Belgium.

The meeting offered young researchers the chance to present their work and engage in conversation about methodological, historiographical and artistic questions.

More than 100 developers, designers and technical contributors from around the world came together for a weekend of collaboration, creativity and coding.
The hackathon is the place for people already active in the Wikimedia technical community to meet in person. The event began, as is tradition, with a ‘lightning round’ in which participants were each given exactly 60 seconds to present their project ideas. Working groups then formed around a variety of topics, from improvements to the MediaWiki software to experimental tools for Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.Tttt

== General Assembly Wikimedia Europe 2025: Stronger together in Prague ==

The annual General Assembly of [[m:Wikimedia_Europa|Wikimedia Europe]] took place in Prague on 25 and 26 April 2025. Wikimedia Czech Republic welcomed this year's representatives of the European chapters to their premises, located in a former industrial area just outside the city centre.

The meeting reviewed the 2024 activities. The participants - a broad delegation of elected members from the various Wikimedia organisations in Europe - took note of the annual reports, financial statements and results achieved. They also looked ahead to plans for 2025.

The atmosphere was constructive and collegial. Key topics on the agenda included:

* '''Network Communication''': the internal communication within Wikimedia Europe.
* The impact of the European '''Digital Services Act''' on our movement, with a particular focus on dealing with systemic crises
* The role of Wikimedia in Northern Europe.

From '''2 to 4 May''', the annual [[mw:Wikimedia_Hackathon_2025| '''Wikimedia Hackathon''']] took place - this time in an exceptional location: on the banks of the Bosphorus, in the heart of [[wikipedia:en:Istanbul|Instanbul]].

More than 100 developers, designers and technical contributors from around the world came together for a weekend of collaboration, creativity and coding.
The hackathon is the place for people already active in the Wikimedia technical community to meet in person. The event began, as is tradition, with a ‘lightning round’ in which participants were each given exactly 60 seconds to present their project ideas. Working groups then formed around a variety of topics, from improvements to the MediaWiki software to experimental tools for Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.

Besides the intensive programming, there were also workshops and technical presentations tailored to the interests of the participants.  See the whole [[mw:Wikimedia_Hackathon_2025/Program|programme]]?

As usual, the weekend ended festively, this year with a musical evening cruise on the Bosphorus - an atmospheric finale to an inspiring and productive weekend.

== General Assembly Wikimedia Europe 2025: Stronger together in Prague ==

The annual General Assembly of [[m:Wikimedia_Europa|Wikimedia Europe]] took place in Prague on 25 and 26 April 2025. Wikimedia Czech Republic welcomed this year's representatives of the European chapters to their premises, located in a former industrial area just outside the city centre.

The meeting reviewed the 2024 activities. The participants - a broad delegation of elected members from the various Wikimedia organisations in Europe - took note of the annual reports, financial statements and results achieved. They also looked ahead to plans for 2025.

The atmosphere was constructive and collegial. Key topics on the agenda included:

* '''Network Communication''': the internal communication within Wikimedia Europe.
* The impact of the European '''Digital Services Act''' on our movement, with a particular focus on dealing with systemic crises
* The role of Wikimedia in Northern Europe.

Another important moment was the expansion of the board: two new members were elected to join the board.

The General Assembly of Wikimedia Europe remains an essential moment to align, connect and collectively shape the future of the free knowledge network in Europe.
