As the ecosystem of Wikimedia projects continues to evolve, it is crucial that we periodically review existing projects to ensure they still align with our goals and community capacity. Despite their noble intent, some projects may no longer effectively serve their original purpose. '''Reviewing such projects is not about giving up – it's about responsible stewardship of shared resources'''. Volunteer time, staff support, infrastructure, and community attention are finite, and the non-technical costs tend to grow significantly as our ecosystem has entered a different age of the internet than the one we were founded in. Supporting inactive projects or projects that didn't meet our ambitions can unintentionally divert these resources from areas with more potential impact. Moreover, maintaining projects that no longer reflect the quality and reliability of the Wikimedia name stands for, involves a reputational risk. An abandoned or less reliable project affects trust in the Wikimedia movement. Lastly, '''failing to sunset or reimagine projects that are no longer working can make it much harder to start new ones'''. When the community feels bound to every past decision – no matter how outdated – we risk stagnation. A healthy ecosystem must allow for evolution, adaptation, and, when necessary, letting go. If we create the expectation that every project must exist indefinitely, we limit our ability to experiment and innovate. Because of this, SPTF reviewed two requests concerning the lifecycle of the Sister Projects to work through and demonstrate the review process. We chose Wikispore as a case study for a possible new Sister Project opening and Wikinews as a case study for a review of an existing project. Preliminary findings were discussed with the CAC, and a community consultation on both proposals was recommended. === Wikispore === The [[m:Wikispore|application to consider Wikispore]] was submitted in 2019. SPTF decided to review this request in more depth because rather than being concentrated on a specific topic, as most of the proposals for the new Sister Projects are, Wikispore has the potential to nurture multiple start-up Sister Projects. After careful consideration, the SPTF has decided '''not to recommend''' Wikispore as a Wikimedia Sister Project. Considering the current activity level, the current arrangement allows '''better flexibility''' and experimentation while WMF provides core infrastructural support. We acknowledge the initiative's potential and seek community input on what would constitute a sufficient level of activity and engagement to reconsider its status in the future. As part of the process, we shared the decision with the Wikispore community and invited one of its leaders, Pharos, to an SPTF meeting. Currently, we especially invite feedback on measurable criteria indicating the project's readiness, such as contributor numbers, content volume, and sustained community support. This would clarify the criteria sufficient for opening a new Sister Project, including possible future Wikispore re-application. However, the numbers will always be a guide because any number can be gamed. === Wikinews === We chose to review Wikinews among existing Sister Projects because it is the one for which we have observed the highest level of concern in multiple ways. [[File:Monsiau - Alexander the Great Attacking the Oxydrakai, 1809.jpg|thumb|યુદ્ધમાં દુશ્મનો સામે બહાદુરીથી લડતા સિકંદર]] *સિકંદરનું પર્શિયા પર આક્રમણ સિંહાસન પર બેઠા પછી એલેક્ઝાન્ડર પર્શિયા પર આક્રમણ કરવાના વિચાર સાથે મોટો થયો હતો. અચેમેનિડ સામ્રાજ્ય પર વિજય મેળવવા પાછળનું તેમનું સત્તાવાર કારણ ગ્રીકોને મુક્તિ અપાવવાનું, એનાટોલીયન કિનારા પરના ગ્રીક શહેરો અને સાયપ્રસ ટાપુને પર્શિયન નિયંત્રણમાંથી મુક્ત કરાવવાનું અને રાજા ઝેર્ક્સિસના નેતૃત્વ હેઠળ ગ્રીસ પર પર્શિયનોના આક્રમણનો બદલો લેવાનું હતું. સિકંદર પર્શિયા સામે વ્યાપકપણે સફળ રહ્યો. *ગ્રેનિકસનું યુદ્ધ તે ઇ.પૂ. ૩૩૪માં આધુનિક પશ્ચિમ તુર્કીમાં લડાઈ હતી. સિકંદર પશ્ચિમ તુર્કીના દરિયાકાંઠે આગળ વધ્યો અને ૨૦,૦૦૦ પર્શિયન ઘોડેસવારોની સેનાને હરાવી, શહેરો જીતી લીધા અને પર્શિયન નૌકાદળને થાણાઓથી વંચિત રાખ્યું. *ઇસુસનું યુદ્ધ આ મહત્વપૂર્ણ યુદ્ધ ઇસ પૂર્વે ૩૩૩માં દક્ષિણ તુર્કીમાં આવેલા પ્રાચીન શહેર ઇસુસ નજીક લડાયું હતું. પર્સિયનોનું નેતૃત્વ રાજા ડેરિયસ ત્રીજા દ્વારા કરવામાં આવ્યું હતું. સિકંદરની સેનાએ તેના કરતા બમણી મોટી પર્સિયન સેનાને હરાવી અને રાજા ડેરિયસને મોતને ઘાટ ઉતારી દીધો, આમ વિશ્વના સૌથી મોટા સામ્રાજ્ય પર તેનું શાસન સ્થાપિત કર્યું. *ઇજિપ્તનું ફિરોન સાથે યુદ્ધ સિકંદર ભૂમધ્ય સમુદ્ર પાર કરીને દક્ષિણ તરફ ગયા અને પર્સિયનોના નૌકાદળના થાણાઓ નષ્ટ કર્યા. જોકે, ઘણા શહેરોએ શરણાગતિ સ્વીકારી, જેમ કે ટાયર, જે આધુનિક લેબનોનમાં એક ટાપુ પર હતું, જેના કારણે સિકંદરને તેના પર કબજો કરવાની ફરજ પડી. ઇ.પૂ. ૩૩૨માં ગાઝા કબજે કર્યા પછી તેણે ઇજિપ્તમાં પ્રવેશ કર્યો જે બે સદીઓથી પર્સિયન શાસન હેઠળ હતું. તેણે ઇજિપ્તના ઉત્તરી કિનારે એલેક્ઝાંડ્રિયા શહેરની સ્થાપના કરી. સિકંદરે ઇજિપ્તની રાજધાની મેમ્ફિસમાં પોતાને ફારુન તરીકે રાજ્યાભિષેક કરાવ્યો હતો અને પરંપરાગત સમારોહ દ્વારા પોતાને ઇજિપ્તીયન શાસકોની લાઇન સાથે જોડવાનો પ્રયાસ કર્યો હતો. == સિકંદરનું ભારત પર આક્રમણ== મેસેડોનિયા અને [[ગ્રીસ]]માં પોતાની સ્થિતિ મજબૂત કર્યા પછી સિકંદરે વિજયની એક વ્યાપક યોજના તૈયાર કરી. આ પ્રક્રિયામાં તેણે એશિયા માઇનોર, [[સિરિયા|સીરિયા]], [[ઇજિપ્ત]], બેબીલોન, બેક્ટ્રિયા, સોડિયાના, વગેરે પર વિજય મેળવ્યો. ઇ.પૂ. ૩૩૧માં આર્બેલા (ગૌગામેલા)ના પ્રખ્યાત યુદ્ધમાં, તેણે ડેરિયસ તૃતિયના નેતૃત્વ હેઠળની વિશાળ પર્શિયન સેનાને હરાવી. પર્શિયન સેનાને હરાવ્યા પછી સિકંદરે ભારત પર વિજય મેળવવાના સંકલ્પ સાથે ભારત પર હુમલો કર્યો. પુષ્કલવતી અને [[સિંધુ]] વચ્ચે આવેલા બધા નાના પ્રદેશો જીતી ને તેણે નીચલી [[કાબુલ]] ખીણમાં પોતાનું સ્થાન મજબૂત કર્યું. સિંધુ પાર કરતા પહેલા કેટલાક સ્થાનિક સહાયકોની મદદથી સિકંદરે આઓર્નોસના મજબૂત કિલ્લા પર કબજો કર્યો. અહીં તેણે શશિ ગુપ્તાને શાસક તરીકે નિયુક્ત કર્યા. આ સ્થાનથી સિકંદર હાલના ઓહિંદ નજીક સિંધુ નદીના કિનારે આવ્યો જ્યાં તેના સેનાપતિઓએ પહેલેથી જ હોડીઓનો પુલ બનાવ્યો હતો. અહીં એક મહિના સુધી આરામ કર્યા પછી ઇ.પૂ. ૩૨૬ની વસંતઋતુમાં તેણે સિંધુ નદી પાર કરી અને ભારતીય ભૂમિ પર પગ મૂક્યો. સિંધુ નદી પાર કર્યા પછી જેનું રાજ્ય સિંધુ અને જેલમ નદીઓ વચ્ચે ફેલાયેલું હતું એવા તક્ષશિલાના શાસક અંભીએ તેની સમગ્ર પ્રજા અને સેના સાથે સિકંદર સમક્ષ શરણાગતિ સ્વીકારી અને તેની રાજધાનીમાં સિકંદરનું ભવ્ય સ્વાગત કર્યું. તક્ષશિલામાં એક દરબાર ભરાયો હતો જ્યાં પડોશના ઘણા નાના રાજાઓએ કિંમતી સામગ્રી સાથે સિકંદર સમક્ષ શરણાગતિ સ્વીકારી. આમ તક્ષશિલામાં ઉજવણી કરતી વખતે સિકંદરે જેલમ અને ચિનાબ વચ્ચેના પ્રદેશના શાસક [[પોરસ]] (પુરુ) પાસેથી શરણાગતિ માંગી. પોરસને આ શરત શિષ્ટાચારની વિરુદ્ધ લાગી. તેણે સંદેશ મોકલ્યો કે તે ગ્રીક વિજેતાને ફક્ત યુદ્ધના મેદાનમાં જ મળશે. આ સિકંદર માટે ખુલ્લો પડકાર હતો. તેથી તે યુદ્ધ માટે તૈયાર થઈ ગયો. આ યુદ્ધ ઈ.સ. પૂર્વે ૩૨૬માં સિકંદર અને પોરસ વચ્ચે જેલમ નદીના કિનારે લડાયું હતું. તેને 'વિટસ્તાનું યુદ્ધ', 'જેલમનું યુદ્ધ' અને 'હાઇડાસ્પેસનું યુદ્ધ' નામોથી ઓળખવામાં આવે છે. પોરસની સેનાએ જેલમ નદીના પૂર્વ કિનારે પડાવ નાખ્યો હતો અને સિકંદરની સેનાએ જેલમ નદીના પશ્ચિમ કિનારે પડાવ નાખ્યો હતો. વરસાદને કારણે જેલમ નદી છલકાઈ ગઈ હતી. તેથી સિકંદર માટે નદી પાર કરવી મુશ્કેલ હતી. બંને પક્ષો થોડા દિવસો સુધી તકની રાહ જોતા રહ્યા. અંતે એક રાત્રે જ્યારે ભારે વરસાદ પડ્યો, ત્યારે સિકંદર પોતાની સેનાને જેલમ નદી પાર લઈ ગયો. ભારતીય પક્ષ તેના આ કૃત્યથી સ્તબ્ધ થઈ ગયો. પોરસની સેના ખૂબ મોટી હતી. એરિયનના મતે આ સેનામાં ચાર હજાર મજબૂત ઘોડેસવાર, ત્રણસો રથ, બસો હાથી અને ત્રીસ હજાર પાયદળ હતા. સૌ પ્રથમ પોરસે પોતાના પુત્ર મલયકેતુના નેતૃત્વમાં ૨,૦૦૦ સૈનિકોને સિકંદરનો સામનો કરવા અને તેનો રસ્તો રોકવા માટે મોકલ્યા. પરંતુ તેઓ સિકંદર સામે ટકી શક્યા નહીં અને તેનો પુત્ર માર્યો ગયો. અંતે પોરસ પોતે લડવા આવ્યો. પોરસ અને તેની તીરંદાજ સેનાએ યુદ્ધમાં સિકંદરને સખત લડાઈ આપી. પરંતુ અંતે સિકંદરે પોરસની આખી સેનાનો નાશ કર્યો અને પોરસને કેદી બનાવ્યો. આમ, જેલમના આ યુદ્ધમાં પણ સિકંદરનો વિજય થયો. [[File:Alexander the Great (356-23 BC) and Porus (oil on canvas).jpg|thumb|સિકંદરે પોરસને હરાવીને બંદી બનાવ્યો]] યુદ્ધ પછી, ઘાયલ પોરસને સિકંદર સમક્ષ રજૂ કરવામાં આવ્યો. સિકંદરે પોરસની બહાદુરીની પ્રશંસા કરી અને પૂછ્યું, "તમારી સાથે કેવું વર્તન કરવું જોઈએ?" પોરસે ગર્વથી જવાબ આપ્યો - "જેમ એક બહાદુર રાજા બીજા બહાદુર રાજા સાથે વર્તે છે." આ જવાબ સાંભળી ને સિકંદર ખૂબ ખુશ થયો. તેણે પોરસને જીવનદાન આપ્યું અને તેને પોતાનો સત્રપ (રાજ્યપાલ) બનાવ્યો. આ પછી સિકંદરે યુદ્ધમાં મૃત્યુ પામેલા સૈનિકોના અંતિમ સંસ્કાર કર્યા અને ગ્રીક દેવતાઓની પૂજા કરી. તેણે બે શહેરો સ્થાપ્યા. પ્રથમ શહેર વિજયની યાદમાં યુદ્ધના મેદાનમાં જ સ્થાપિત કરવામાં આવ્યું હતું અને તેનું નામ "નિકૈયા" (વિજયનગર) રાખવામાં આવ્યું હતું. બીજું શહેર જેલમ નદીના બીજા કાંઠે તે સ્થળે સ્થાપિત કરવામાં આવ્યું હતું જ્યાં સિકંદરના પ્રિય ઘોડા 'બુકેફલા'નું મૃત્યુ થયું હતું. આ શહેરનું નામ પણ ઘોડાના નામ પરથી 'બુકેફલા' રાખવામાં આવ્યું હતું. જેલમના યુદ્ધમાં પોરસને હરાવ્યા પછી સિકંદરે [[ચેનાબ નદી|ચેનાબ]] નદીના પશ્ચિમ કિનારે આવેલા 'ગ્લૌચુકાયાન રાજ્ય' પર હુમલો કર્યો અને ગ્લુચુકાયાનને હરાવ્યા. ત્યારબાદ તેણે ચેનાબ નદી પાર કરીને 'ગંડારી' રાજ્યમાં પ્રવેશ કર્યો. પોરસનો ભત્રીજો 'છોટા પુરુ' અહીં શાસન કરતો હતો. તે પોતાનું રાજ્ય છોડીને ભાગી ગયો અને સિકંદરે ચેનાબ અને રાવી નદીઓ વચ્ચેનું પોતાનું રાજ્ય કબજે કર્યું. આ પછી તેણે રાવી નદી પાર કરીને ગંજતીઓ પર હુમલો કર્યો. અદ્રેષ્ટરાય (આદ્રીજ) લોકોએ શરણાગતિ સ્વીકારી અને સિકંદરે તેમની રાજધાની 'પિમ્પ્રમા' કબજે કરી. દક્ષિણ-પશ્ચિમ પંજાબમાં અંબસ્થ, ક્ષત્રિ અને વસતી નામના નાના પ્રજાસત્તાકો હતા. તેમણે પણ સિકંદરનું આધિપત્ય સ્વીકાર્યું. આ પછી સિકંદર પાતાળ પહોંચ્યો જ્યાં સિંધુ નદી બે પ્રવાહોમાં વિભાજીત થાય છે. ડાયોડોરસના મતે સ્પાર્ટાની જેમ અહીં પણ બે રાજાઓનું શાસન (ડાયર્કી) હતું અને તે વડીલોની પરિષદ દ્વારા સંચાલિત હતું.સિકંદરના આગમનના સમાચાર સાંભળી ને અહીંના નાગરિકોએ શહેર ખાલી કરી દીધું અને સિકંદરે તેના પર સંપૂર્ણ નિયંત્રણ મેળવી લીધું. અહીં તેણે એક નવું સત્રપદ (પ્રાંત) બનાવ્યું જેનો શાસક (સત્રપ) પાયથોન તરીકે નિયુક્ત થયો. સિકંદર લગભગ ૧૧ મહિના ભારતમાં રહ્યો. આ સમય દરમિયાન તેણે પોતાની બહાદુરીથી ઘણા ભારતીય રાજ્યો જીતી લીધા અને ભારત જીતવાનું પોતાનું સ્વપ્ન પૂર્ણ કર્યું. સિકંદર અને તેની સેનાને પોતાનું વતન છોડ્યાને ઘણા વર્ષો થઈ ગયા હતા અને તેઓ હવે સતત યુદ્ધને કારણે થાકી ગયા હતા. પોરસ અને અન્ય ભારતીય રાજાઓને હરાવ્યા પછી સિકંદરે આખરે પોતાની માતૃભૂમિ ગ્રીસ જવાનું નક્કી કર્યું. == મૃત્યુ== વિશ્વના મહાન વિજેતા સિકંદરનું મૃત્યુ ઇતિહાસના સૌથી વિવાદાસ્પદ વિષયોમાંનો એક છે. ભારત પર વિજય મેળવ્યા પછી સિકંદર ઘણા વર્ષો પછી પોતાની માતૃભૂમિ ગ્રીસ પાછા ફરવા માટે ઉત્સુક હતો. પરંતુ તે [[ગ્રીસ]] પહોંચે તે પહેલાં તેનું [[ઇજિપ્ત]]ના બેબીલોન નામના શહેરમાં રહસ્યમય રીતે મૃત્યુ થયું.
