Hi, I just want to float the idea of having an English to Urdu dictionary. Once we have that, it will be great help to translate articles from English Wikipedia to Urdu wikipedia and the number of articles in urdu version will grow rapidly. Any idea? suggestions/ Thanks Zaheer July 12 2007

مسافت قصرایک سوپچہتر(175)کلومیٹر:  شریعت اسلامیہ میں بعض موقعوں پر مسافت قصر کا اعتبار کیاگیا ہے۔
نماز میں قصر یعنی چار رکعات کی جگہ دو رکعات پڑھنا(1)
روزہ کا ترک یعنی شرعی سفر میں روزہ نہ رکھنا(2)      
چاند کے ثابت ہونے کےلئے مسافت قصر کا اعتبار کیاگیاہے۔(3)     آج کل مسافت قصر کے سلسلہ میں بہت مختلف اقوال وآرا بیان کی جارہی ہیں اور بعض کتابوں میں بھی مختلف مسافت لکھی گئی ہے۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اور صحابہ کرام رضی اللہ عنہم نے مختلف اسفار میں نماز میں قصر کیاہے۔ ہرسفر کی مسافت الگ الگ تھی، مگر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کا قول چار(4)برد کا ہے۔اور جمہور  صحابہ و علما کا چار(4)برد پراتفاق ہے۔قصر کےلئے شرط یہ ہے کہ اڑتالیس(48)میل ھاشمی یعنی ایک سو پچہتر(175)کلومیٹر  یا اس سے زیادہ کے سفر کی نیت ہو اور اپنے شہر کی آبادی ختم ہونے کے بعد قصر کا آغاز ہو۔
چار(4)برد یعنی اڑتالیس(48)میل ہاشمی کی تحقیق:  جمہور علما امام مالک، امام شافعی، امام احمد بن حنبل ،امام لیث بن سعد وغیرہم کا اس پر اتفاق ہے کہ قصر کی مسافت چار(4)برد یعنی سولہ(16)فرسخ، اڑتالیس(48)میل ہاشمی ہے۔ جمہور علما کا اتفاق اڑتالیس میل ہاشمی ہے، نہ کے اڑتالیس میل انگریزی۔ اڑتالیس میل انگریزی مراد لینا صحیح نہیں ہے، اسلئے کہ میل ہاشمی اور میل انگریزی میں بہت بڑا فرق ہے۔ میل کے تین اقسام بہت مشہور ہے۔
(1) میل اموی   (2) میل ہاشمی   (3)  میل انگریزی  
اور کلومیٹر میل انگریزی سے مختلف ہے۔ ایک میل اموی 14400 فٹ کا ہوتا ہے، اور ایک میل ہاشمی 12000 فٹ کا ہوتا ہے، اور ایک میل انگریزی تقریباً 5280 فٹ کا ہوتا ہے اور کلومیٹر تقریباً تین ہزار دو سو اسی3280 فٹ کا ہوتا ہے۔ اس حساب سے اڑتالیس (48) میل ہاشمی ایک سو پچہتر(175) کلومیٹر اور تقریبا ایک سو نو(109) میل انگریزی ہوتے ہیں۔لہذا اس سے کم مسافت پر نماز میں قصر کرنا اور روزہ کا چھوڑنا صحیح نہ ہوگا۔اللہ اعلم بالصواب
امام ابوحنیفہ رحمہ اللہ کا مسلک تین دن کی مسافت یعنی چوبیس(24)فرسخ یعنی 263 کلومیٹر کا ہے، لیکن متاخرین احناف کا مسلک جمہور علما ہی کا ہے یعنی سولہ (16) فرسخ ہے۔ اور سولہ فرسخ ایک سو پچہتر(175)کلومیٹر ہوتے ہیں۔اس سے کم مسافت میں قصر کرنا جمہور فقہا کی تصریحات کے خلاف ہوگا اور خروج عن الجمہور ہوگا۔ 
اس لئے کہ ایک میل ہاشمی کی مسافت جمہور علما نے اس طرح کی ہے۔ امام غزالی، امام رافعی، علامہ مجدالدین ابن تیمیہ، علامہ شمس الدین کرمانی، علامہ ابن حجر مکی، علامہ خطیب شربینی، علامہ رملی، علامہ عبدالغنی دمشقی حنفی، علامہ ابن عابدین شامی حنفی رحمہم اللہ وغیرہم نے ایک میل ہاشمی کی مسافت چارہزار(4000) خطوہ انسانی یعنی بارہ ہزار (12000) قدم انسانی لکھا ہے۔(بعضوں نے چار ہزار خطوہ سے چار ہزار قدم سمجھا ہے، یہ صحیح نہیں ہے) اور ایک قدم انسانی(foot) بارہ انچ (30.48) سنٹی میٹر کا ہوتا ہے۔ اس حساب سے اڑتالیس میل ہاشمی (576000 ) فٹ اور(175564.80)میٹر، تقریباً ایک سو پچہتر (175)کلو میٹر ہوتے ہیں۔
بعض حضرات نے 4000 ذراع کے حساب سے 88 کلومیٹر کے قائل ہوگئے ہیں۔ یہ قول مفردات میں سے ہے اور شاذ ہے۔ اس لئے جمہور علما چار ہزار خطوہ یعنی بارہ ہزار قدم کے قائل ہیں ، نہ کہ چار ہزار(4000) ذراع کے۔ علامہ شامی رحمہ اللہ نے بھی چار ہزار خطوہ لکھا ہے۔
علامہ نووی اور علامہ عینی رحمۃ اللہ علیہما نے ایک میل ھاشمی یعنی ایک میل شرعی کی مسافت چھ ہزار(6000)ذراع لکھا ہے۔ذراع سے مراد ذراع ہاشمی ہے، اور ذراع ہاشمی دو فٹ یعنی 61 سنٹی میٹر  ہے۔ (معجم لغۃ الفقہا1/213) اس حساب سے بھی 6000 ذراع کی مسافت 12000 فٹ ہوئے۔ اور ایک میل ہاشمی کی مسافت 12000 فٹ ہوئے۔ لہذا ایک سو پچہتر(175) کلومیٹر  ہی قصر کی صحیح مسافت بنتی ہے۔اللہ اعلم
اس مسئلہ پر مزید معلومات کے لئے حضرت مولانا محمد شفیع قاسمی بھٹکلی مدظلہ کی کتاب مسافت قصر ایک سو پچہتر کلومیٹر کا مطالعہ کیا جاسکتا ہے۔ جو ادارہ رضیۃ الابرار سلمان آباد، بھٹکل، ہند سے شائع ہوچکی ہے۔

At the request of Wikipedia editors, a new feature has been added to MediaWiki.  Long lists of references (also called citations or footnotes) will automatically be displayed in columns.  This will make it easier for most people to read the references, especially on narrow screens.  Short lists of references will not be affected.

I plan to enable this new feature at this wiki on Monday, 11 September 2017.  After that date, use the normal &lt;code&gt;&lt;nowiki&gt;&lt;references /&gt;&lt;/nowiki&gt;&lt;/code&gt; tag on any page with many references to see this feature. I want to bring your attention to the next stage of the Universal Code of Conduct process, which is forming a building committee for the Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C). I invite community members with experience and deep interest in community health and governance to nominate themselves to be part of the U4C building committee, which needs people who are:

* Community members in good standing
* Knowledgeable about movement community processes, such as, but not limited to, policy drafting, participatory decision making, and application of existing rules and policies on Wikimedia projects
* Aware and appreciative of the diversity of the movement, such as, but not limited to, languages spoken, identity, geography, and project type
* Committed to participate for the entire U4C Building Committee period from mid-May - December 2023
* Comfortable with engaging in difficult, but productive conversations

The [[m:Special:MyLanguage/Wikimedia_Foundation_elections_committee|Elections Committee]] assists with the design and implementation of the process to select Community- and Affiliate-Selected trustees for the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees. After an open nomination process, the strongest candidates spoke with the Board and four candidates were asked to join the Elections Committee. The [[foundation:Special:MyLanguage/Policy:Universal Code of Conduct/Enforcement guidelines|Enforcement Guidelines]] require a [[foundation:Special:MyLanguage/Policy:Universal_Code_of_Conduct/Enforcement_guidelines#4.5_U4C_Building_Committee|Building Committee]] form to draft a charter that outlines procedures and details for a global committee to be called the [[foundation:Special:MyLanguage/Policy:Universal_Code_of_Conduct/Enforcement_guidelines#4._UCoC_Coordinating_Committee_(U4C)|Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C)]]. Over the past few months, the U4C Building Committee worked together as a group to discuss and draft the U4C charter. The U4C Building Committee welcomes feedback about the draft charter now through 22 September 2023. After that date, the U4C Building Committee will revise the charter as needed and a community vote will open shortly afterward.

This year, the term of 4 (four) Community- and Affiliate-selected Trustees on the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees will come to an end [1]. The Board invites the whole movement to participate in this year’s selection process and vote to fill those seats.

The [[m:Special:MyLanguage/Wikimedia Foundation elections committee|Elections Committee]] will oversee this process with support from Foundation staff [2]. The Board Governance Committee created a Board Selection Working Group from Trustees who cannot be candidates in the 2024 community- and affiliate-selected trustee selection process composed of Dariusz Jemielniak, Nataliia Tymkiv, Esra'a Al Shafei, Kathy Collins, and Shani Evenstein Sigalov [3]. The group is tasked with providing Board oversight for the 2024 trustee selection process, and for keeping the Board informed. Here are the key planned dates:

*  May 2024: Call for candidates and call for questions
*  June 2024: Affiliates vote to shortlist 12 candidates (no shortlisting if 15 or less candidates apply) [5]

*  October–November 2024: Background check of selected candidates

We are gradually increasing the number of wikis using Parsoid, with the intention of making it the default wikitext parser for MediaWiki's next long-term support release. This will make our wikis more reliable and consistent for editors, readers, and tools to use, as well as making the development of future wikitext features easier.

If this transition disrupts your workflow, don’t worry! You can still opt out through a user preference or turn Parsoid off on the current page using the Tools submenu, as described in the [[mw:Special:MyLanguage/Help:Extension:ParserMigration|Extension:ParserMigration]] documentation.

We opened a discussion on Meta about a very delicate issue for the development of [[:m:Special:MyLanguage/Abstract Wikipedia|Abstract Wikipedia]]: where to store the abstract content that will be developed through functions from Wikifunctions and data from Wikidata. Since some of the hypothesis involve your project, we wanted to hear your thoughts too. 

We want to make the decision process clear: we do not yet know which option we want to use, which is why we are consulting here. We will take the arguments from the Wikimedia communities into account, and we want to consult with the different communities and hear arguments that will help us with the decision. Dear all,

This year, the term of 2 (two) Community- and Affiliate-selected Trustees on the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees will come to an end [1]. The Board invites the whole movement to participate in this year’s selection process and vote to fill those seats.

The Elections Committee will oversee this process with support from Foundation staff [2]. The Governance Committee, composed of trustees who are not candidates in the 2025 community-and-affiliate-selected trustee selection process (Raju Narisetti, Shani Evenstein Sigalov, Lorenzo Losa, Kathy Collins, Victoria Doronina and Esra’a Al Shafei) [3], is tasked with providing Board oversight for the 2025 trustee selection process and for keeping the Board informed. More details on the roles of the Elections Committee, Board, and staff are here [4].

Here are the key planned dates:

* May 22 – June 5: Announcement (this communication) and call for questions period [6]
* June 17 – July 1, 2025: Call for candidates
* July 2025: If needed, affiliates vote to shortlist candidates if more than 10 apply [5]
* August 2025: Campaign period
* August – September 2025: Two-week community voting period
* October – November 2025: Background check of selected candidates
* Board’s Meeting in December 2025: New trustees seated

In each selection process, the community has the opportunity to submit questions for the Board of Trustees candidates to answer. The Election Committee selects questions from the list developed by the community for the candidates to answer. Candidates must answer all the required questions in the application in order to be eligible; otherwise their application will be disqualified. This year, the Election Committee will select 5 questions for the candidates to answer. The selected questions may be a combination of what’s been submitted from the community, if they’re alike or related.
