Volgns de volkstellienge van 2021 telde de stad 1.633.595 inweuners, woarmee da 't achter [[Moskou]] en [[Sint-Petersburg]] de derde mêest bevolkte stad van Rusland is. Novosibirsk ligt in 't zuudwestn van [[Siberië]], an de oevers van de riviere de Ob.

Novosibirsk wierd in 1893 gesticht ip 't kruuspunt van de riviere de Ob met de toekomstige Trans-Siberische spoorlyne, woar dat de Novosibirsk-spoorbrugge angeleid wierd. De plekke wierd in 't begun Novonikolaïevsk genoemd ter êre van tsar Nikolai II en groeide al zêre uut tout e belangryk transport-, commercieel en industrieel centrum.
